NEWS STORIES IDEAS

One news story idea that I have is about the parking situation at BBA. I cannot drive yet but I have heard from my classmates and peers that the junior and senior lot are very crowded. Some emails have been sent out concerning the spaces that people are using for their parking spots. Some people don't have enough space to use a single parking spot and some people take up two. I would look into interviewing Nancy Biller, since she is the one sending out most of the emails about the parking spaces, a couple of juniors, and a couple of seniors to get the inside scoop on the parking situations. Some people's cars have been hit because of the tight and not enough parking spaces and coming up with a resolution to this issue would be very helpful not just to the staff but to the students. Especially with the new building in the plans to be built, it will be put where the faculty parking lot is. What will happen when the faculty need somewhere to park? Will they go to the junior lot? Sophomore? Senior? The new building being planned and built is very exciting for our school and community but the increasing dangers of parking malfunctions are sure to rise without a revised solution, not just for the winter, but for the construction of the addition to our amazing school.

My second news story that I would like to focus on is Darryl Davis' death. She had been such a helpful person to so many children and people. I had personally known her since I was in pre-school because I went to pre-school with Bek and she was always so kind to everyone she met, even though I only knew her at such a young age. If I were to do this news story I would love to learn more about what she did in her life and whom she affected most of all. If it is okay with her children, I would be honored to be able to interview them and close friends/faculty that knew her. Too many people close in our community have passed away and it is important to be able to talk about it and spread the word. I would be honored to do this news story representing BBA.

My third news story idea is something about food at BBA. BBA has a variety of options including vegan, vegetarian, and so much more. I want to know where does it come from? How much does it cost? And most importantly, Meatless Monday. I personally am not a big fan of it but I know the planet benefits. I would like to know, who's idea it was, what polls people think about it, and how it has made a difference in our school. I would talk to people like Lani and Sarah McMillian to see their view on the movement or vegan people who can explain the global benefits.

My first news story

This was my first time doing a news story for BBA and ever. My group did not end up using any of my ideas which was sad for me at first but it is okay because there is always next time. I do not know anything about football besides how you throw the ball and a touchdown so editing this was a bit of a learning curve since I had to learn a little terminology. Since I had done regular interviews before it was pretty easy to get the idea of how to edit two people into one minute. The news story used to be around two minutes and I got it down to one and it looks pretty tight and consistent. I think I did well on learning something new about football and news interviews. If I had to do it again I would try to get a better camera to film and a better mic so that it sounds and looks 100% good. I would also try to get some actual b-roll from whatever I am talking about instead of using random videos of the field and pictures off of SmugMug. Overall, I think I did a good job but there is always room for improvement.
